NYSC Lodge Gone Wrong. Other Accommodation Option You Have as A Corp Member

Every Nigerian student is expected to serve their country after the rigmarole of the university life.

To a few, serving the country is a cold noodle, the thought of it makes them want to throw up. To a few more, it is an avenue to buy time, and have a bit of fun moment before rocketing into the labor market.

Whichever one it is, you’re here, and I’m glad you’ve decided to serve your country.

NYSC is a year timeline with lots of different shades of life realities attached to it. A common problem is lodging. At some point, the “where to sleep question gets to everyone.” If you’ve started having such questions, stay close till the end of the article, I come bearing good gifts. Shall we?

Why NYSC?

In the words of the NYSC body, we stand “To develop in the Nigerian youth the attitudes of mind, acquired through shared experience and suitable training, which will make them more amenable to mobilization in the national interest”. This seems like a grammatical maze, too much English. If you ask me, NYSC to many Nigerians is for the sole purpose of getting a job with the government. Our elders will also chip into our subconscious mind that “There is no political position for anyone that doesn’t serve the country”. Logically, you’re expected to serve your country as these benefits are intriguing.

Hustles of Every Corper

I’m not Judas; I won’t take your meal and deny you, so the grassroots of our discussion is built on truth and credibility. Not all corpers go through challenges, a larger chunk wants comfort. After the university paparazzi, the least of what anyone needs is to be on about what to eat and where to sleep.

For a better NYSC experience, a few things are expected to be in place

  • A comfortable resting place (An apartment or lodge).
  • An earning game plan. Truth be told, government funds won’t pay the bills. All these being said, how about we get into the path where we talk about solving the above listed problems?

Why Do I Need to Lodge as A Corper?

NYSC is a hot pot of fun and shege well mixed.. Amongst many of the things your eyes will see, the pin touches down on “Where to rest the head after a successfully seen shege”. Without doubt, NYSC has a lot of activities attached to each day, from the earliest days of camping to the time of primary assignments. Every day is a stressful day. After the day’s hustles, it is reasonable to get a good sleep, you’ll need it. Other reasons include:

  • You need freedom:
Camping experience is a noisy one. Imagine an apartment with a 1000 corpers with a bed space provided by the government, how noisy do you think it will be? How comfortable will that be for you? There are times when you need absolute silence, but you can’t get that easily, even in the nighttime. Remember, we have night watchmen who are more active at night than in the day. After the day’s stress, you need a peaceful rest and a great shower. The bitter truth is that the camping ground can’t give you this. The camping moment is that which most corpers call “Fun”. There you meet people, have blast moments, and be lit for a while. Unfortunately, not everyone is comfortable with the sleeping lifestyle. Nobody truly sleeps right on a campground. There is always a disdain factor around to piss you off. It could be the clamor from other fellow Corpers or a tiny bed space that can’t deliver premium comfort. You might be just like me who values privacy. You want to have a personal space free from noise. If this is you, and you value comfort over many other things, then you probably need a lodge outside.
  • You need a good night’s rest:
Freedom is queen, and a good night’s rest is King. Imagine yourself on a tiny little bed, so small that your legs are longer than it. Some of us are tall, and we detest it when the bed cannot accommodate our height. What about the thickness and succulence of the bed? Try to picture yourself in a comfortable bed that assures you of a blissful night. You’re likely not to get that in camp or during your PPA.
  • Your hustle is also a priority:
You can be that techie who values time and comfort, that business mogul, or the entrepreneur of our time who has to sell. If any of these represents your hustle, you need your personal space to be effective.

What Lodging Alternative Do I Have?

Getting a place to stay isn’t hard. It can be quite pricy if you are less informed about how most people run accommodation as corpers in this present time. But, let’s talk about the traditional style we all know about.

A few people sojourn with friends or family members within. Living under such conditions can come with restrictions/boundaries. Others with a bag full of cash, can choose to get an apartment, a few others go the extra mile in getting hotels. Most especially for the 21days camping experience.

Every of these options have their benefits. Although, the more informed Corpers have cracked a means to get an affordable quality apartment.
